Open House
Reactive Banner

We created this reactive banner to welcome visitors to our studio warming and open house. This project uses motion detection to allows guests to chase, shoo, capture and taunt the illustrations projected on the banner. As guests arrived they could enter their names, creating a new element in the banner to represent them. Over the course of the evening the population of the banner grew in step with the party.

The Reactive Banner was built using software developed in house to detect presence and motion. We designed this software as a toolkit addressing common needs we have encountered working on reactive projections. It is a light-weight alternative to processor intensive motion trackers, ideally suited to spontaneous interactions and can be quickly configured to work with different installation configurations and lighting conditions.
